Dispatch from the Signal
A first note on the worlds, books, and lore archive taking shape here.
Welcome!
However you found your way here—intentionally or accidentally-welcome! And thank you for stopping by.
The site is still very much under construction, but my goal is for it to become the home for everything I create. You'll find news and updates on my books, behind-the-scenes looks at my writing process, and—something I'm especially excited about—a growing codex of the worlds I build.
Why a Codex?
When I was growing up, one of my favorite things to collect were the companion books that expanded on the worlds I loved.
Star Wars was the big one.
I had books filled with cutaway diagrams of ships, detailed explanations of how different technologies worked, descriptions of alien species and their homeworlds, and pages dedicated to characters who might have appeared on screen for all of three seconds without ever speaking a single line.
I absolutely loved that stuff.
It made those worlds feel real. Like there were stories happening just beyond the edge of the camera.
That feeling has stayed with me ever since.
Building a World
Worldbuilding is one of my favorite parts of writing.
I enjoy figuring out the things that readers may never explicitly see on the page.
How does money work?
What do people eat?
How does communication work across space?
Is a piece of technology groundbreaking, or has it become so common that people barely notice it anymore?
The funny thing is, a lot of those details never make it directly into the novel—and they probably shouldn't. Stopping the story every few pages to explain the history of a corporation or the engineering behind a spacecraft would make for a pretty terrible reading experience.
But as the author, I still want those answers.
They influence how characters think, the choices they make, where they've been, what they believe, and even the assumptions they never question because that's simply how their world works.
A Little Like D&D
This is where I admit I'm a bit of a nerd. Shocker, I know.
I love video games, and one of my favorite genres is RPG-Role Playing Game, for the uninitiated. I didn't play tabletop RPGs until I was an adult, but I've since gone through several campaigns with my friends. One of the most satisfying parts of creating a character isn't just choosing abilities—it's writing the backstory, figuring out their flaws, deciding what motivates them, and understanding how they'd react when things go sideways.
Once those pieces are in place, decisions become easier because you're no longer asking, "What would I do?" You're asking, "What would this character do?"
Writing a novel feels surprisingly similar.
Only instead of creating one character, I get to build the entire campaign.
I get to be the Dungeon Master.
I create the world, establish its rules, fill it with history, merchants, governments, corporations, hidden places, forgotten technology, and people living lives completely unrelated to the story I'm telling.
The characters may never visit every city. They may never meet every interesting person or uncover every forgotten artifact.
But it should always feel like they could.
That's what makes a world feel alive.
That's What the Codex Is
The codex is my way of sharing some of that world with you.
Some entries simply add context. Others explore technology, locations, corporations, or bits of history that only get a passing mention in the books. Occasionally you'll find details that never fit naturally into the story but still helped shape it behind the scenes.
Think of it as a guided tour through the corners of the universe that exist just outside the pages.
Why You Won't Find Character Pages (For Now)
You may notice something missing from the codex: character profiles.
That decision is intentional.
Characters are meant to be discovered through the story. Their personalities, motivations, relationships, and histories are part of the journey, and I'd rather you meet them through the pages of the books than through an encyclopedia entry that tells you who they are.
The codex is here to deepen the world, not replace the experience of exploring it.
Instead, you'll find entries on the places they visit, the technology they use, the corporations that shape their lives, and the history and lore that exists just beyond the edges of the narrative.
Could that change one day? Maybe. As the series grows, there may come a point where character entries make sense. But for now, I'd rather let Malcolm, Olivia, Sage, and everyone else introduce themselves in the way they were always meant to: by telling their own stories.
Whether you're here because you've already read Quantum Soul, you're curious about the Serra Prime universe, or you just enjoy seeing how fictional worlds are built, I hope you'll find something interesting.
Thanks again for visiting.
The site is still a work in progress, and I'll be adding new codex entries, blog posts, and updates as I continue working on the Serra Prime series—and the new worlds waiting beyond it.
I'm glad you're here.
